Peugeot has revealed the 508 RXH diesel-electric hybrid, which will top the 508 range when it goes on sale in Spring 2012.

The 508 RXH, which gets a 2.0 HDi HYbrid4 drivetrain consisting of a diesel engine and an electric motor, manages a claimed 67.2 mpg and Co2 emissions of 109 g/km. Combined maximum power of 197bhp is distributed to all four wheels, with electricity powering the rears and the diesel engine sending power to the front. It’s also capable of being driven in fully electric mode, giving zero-emissions potential in town driving conditions.

Peugeot is pitching the new 508 RXH hybrid as a prestige offering, having loaded it with equipment and premium materials inside. Higher and wider than the 508 SW on which it is based, the flagship 508 gets plastic body-cladding and a jacked-up stance similar to the soft-roader style of the Audi Allroad range. With keyless go, panoramic roof, head-up display and sat-nav, the 508 RXH diesel hybrid is expected to get a price tag to match Peugeot’s premium ambitions for the car. List price hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it is certain to exceed the current top spec 508 which is just under £30k.

Peugeot will put the 508 RXH on display to the public at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
